Long Synopsis (Contains Spoilers)
During a late night viewing session of When Harry Met Sally,
Will and Jack discuss the finer points of romance in the movies,
specifically romantic comedies of the 1980's. They decide that
anyone who buys into the false pretenses of 80's romantic comedies
either have no concept of true love, or are still a virgin. Akeem
quietly weeps in the corner, commenting how beautiful the film was.
The next day, while in class, Will contemplates film school romance,
specifically that with Jack. Akeem quickly shoots his dreams down, but
assures him that there is nothing standing in his way from asking Jack
for a date. A James-Bond-esque Will proceeds to try and ask Jack out for
a date, but Professor Wood stops him for interrupting class and forces
him to stand in the corner.
After class, Will catches up with Jack and once again attempts to
court her, but again, Wood intrudes on his proposal. After setting up
another meeting with Jack, Will steps into Wood's office to find out why
Wood was so harsh with him today. Wood hands Will his paper on early
American cinema and calls it "crap!" Wood demands that Will rewrite the
paper before the end of his office hours that evening.
While perturbed, Will begrudgingly accepts the offer, but first
attempts to talk to Jack again in the sound booth. The noise of the
sound effects guys, prevents Will from asking Jack out and again Will is
forced to postpone his proposal. At this point even Will realizes he's a
coward.
Will gets to the writing lab and rewrites his paper. Akeem comes to
check on him only to trip over a door stop causing our two heroes to be
locked in the room. While stuck in the writing lab, Akeem relates this
scenario to a bad television plot when writer's are out of ideas, to
which Will replies that there would not be enough material to warrant
such an episode. Akeem recalls the previous week.
Will gets angry with Akeem over his oversight of the door stop. Akeem
accuses Will of not giving his paper one hundred percent, claiming that
Will can do better than that. Will brushes off the accusation and says
he will fix his paper once they get out of the room. Akeem then accuses
Will of procrastination, saying that would be his ultimate downfall.
Will, realizing that error of his ways, fixes his paper, but the two
friends are still stuck in the room five minutes before the end of
Professor Wood's office hours. Akeem quickly and easily opens the locked
door. After some racial assumptions, Akeem confesses that the only
reason he didn't do that before was because he wouldn't let his friend
turn in a sub-par paper.
Will rushes to meet with Wood and barely makes it on time. Wood
comments on Will's smell and looks before prompting him to leave unless
he has a better reason to stick around the Media Center. Will remembers
his open ended discussion with Jack.
He rushes to find Jack in the sound booth, but she has already left.
He rushes outside to find a surprised Jack sitting on the bench. Will
professes his feelings to Jack, asking if he can get to know more about
her. Will's dreams are quickly shot down as Jack reveals that she
already has a boyfriend. She says the sentiment is sweet and asks if
they are still friends. Of course, Will says, "Yes." As Jack embraces
her boyfriend, Will is left by himself in front of the Media Center.
