| Long Synopsis (Contains Spoilers)
Professor Wood discusses conflict in class, as Will sleeps. A
rather perturbed Wood, proceeds to wake Will by throwing a tape at him
(much to his own personal joy). Wood then notifies the class of the
impending film festival and recalls drama the will ensue (once again
much to his own personal joy).
While leaving class, Will, Akeem, and Jack discuss the festival
with Jack saying the festival is destroying a beautiful art form by
turning it into a chauvinistic bout for supremacy, and Akeem argues
that race trumps gender in this case. Will simply feels that this
is an opportunity for him to see a girl naked...for his film.
While the discussion continues, the gang wanders outside only to
spot, Dante Vender, the cigarette smoking stereotypical badass transfer
student from the coveted New York University film program. No one knows
why he transfer to a lesser film program, but it certainly has nothing
to do with his status at NYU, because he was second in his class and
named the New York Times talent to watch. Dante specifically irks Will
because Jack is showing a certain sexual magnetism towards Dante, which
she claims is simply a want to learn more about him.
On the way to class, Will contemplates why he rarely sees anyone from
outside the program in the Media Center, referencing it to the cabin in
Evil Dead. While deep in thought, Will passes a girl who seems
somewhat out of place in the building. Her name is Sarah Aligheri and
she's an English major who is simply looking for the Media Archives room
and has gotten lost. After there is a spark between them, Will asks her
to look over his first draft of his festival script. She agrees, he
hands her a copy, and heads off to class.
Once in class, Akeem asks to see his script. Will searches, but can't
find it. Suddenly a voice behind them calls his script "bland and
completely unwitting." Will and Akeem turn around to find the source to
be none other than Dante Vender. He swiped Will's script and is offering
his unwanted opinion. When asked for his reason behind the theft, Dante
simply states that he's checking out the competition, but now sees
there's no threat. Will imagines Dante's murder a la Psycho.
After class, Will goes to talk to Wood, only to find him already
talking to Dante. Will overhears Dante discussing early entry into the
film festival. After Dante's conversation, Will confronts Wood about
Dante's early entry and Wood simply states that Dante is a special case
because he has talent. Wood departs, leaving Will to contemplate his
next move. Akeem meets up with him and Will simply asks Akeem opinion on
breaking and entering.
Will figures that his best shot at beating Dante would be to sneak in
to Professor Wood's office and view Dante's tape. Will decides Akeem
will provide the distraction. On their way to Wood's office, they run
into Jack who is making copies of her script. After a rather unnerving
discussion with a rather nervous Akeem, Jack asks Will what their up to.
Will reveals their impending crime and Jack simply brushes it off.
Before leaving, Will makes plans with Jack for a film festival later
that night.
Will and Akeem head to Wood's office. The plan is for Akeem to
distract Professor Wood while Will sneaks into his office and steals the
film. The plan goes off with little problems (except that Professor Wood
has no idea who Akeem is). As Will watches Dante's film, it becomes
glaringly obvious that Dante is simply better than him.
