President Ginsberg

Tigers –

I am thrilled to officially join you today as I begin my tenure as the 15th president of Towson University.

With just a few months remaining in the fall semester, I know you are in the midst of a very busy time and also looking forward to your much-deserved winter break. Until then, I am eager to get to know you and our fellow Tigers as we embark on this new beginning together.

Let me first commend and sincerely thank Dr. Melanie Perreault for her outstanding leadership as interim president. I especially thank her for her informed, inspired and caring leadership of our university. She has been an invaluable resource to me in the weeks since my appointment, and I look forward to our continued partnership as she resumes her role as our provost and chief academic officer.

As president, your success, and the continued success of our university, is my top priority. Every member of our community must be supported, respected and have the resources they need to thrive. I know there are already so many people and initiatives at TU that work toward that goal. It will be my mission to amplify those efforts and identify new ways to further strengthen our community and promote the success of our university.

I believe listening is among a leader’s most important responsibilities. During my first months as TU’s president, listening will be my main focus. One of my favorite quotes comes from Reverend Otis Moss, who sagely once said, “A text without context is only a pretext.” My hope is to listen and learn fully about the context of TU – to understand who we are, what we aspire to be, and how we can achieve our shared vision for TU.

As such, I soon will launch a campus-wide listening tour that will include meetings with many groups, organizations and university leaders. Opportunities to participate will be available for all students, faculty, staff and our community partners – and I’ll be sure to communicate those with you as soon as they are scheduled.

I genuinely want to listen, hear from and understand the perspective of as many members of the TU community as possible. So, please engage with me whenever you can. I welcome invitations to meet or attend events and I can be reached via email at or on social media at @TowsonUPrez. And please be sure to stop by my official welcome event in the Ballrooms at the University Union this Wednesday at 3 p.m., where we also will have an opportunity to meet.

Together, we will plan for TU’s next era. Together, we will help to make a great university become even greater.

Thank you, and best wishes for a successful conclusion to the fall semester! I hope to see you very soon.

GOH Tigers!

Sincerely,

Mark
