Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification

Towson University offers a post-baccalaureate teacher certification program for individuals who already have a bachelor's degree but wish to be certified to teach in Maryland. This program is approved by the Maryland State Department of Education. Towson also offers courses for individuals seeking re-certification to teach in Maryland.

Post-baccalaureate teacher certification programs are available in the following areas of study:

  • middle school education
  • art education
  • dance education
  • health education
  • physical education

How to Apply

  1. You must contact the appropriate academic department listed below and make an appointment to talk with an academic adviser.

    Department of Health Science - Health Education
    Department of Kinesiology - Physical Education
  2. After you receive department approval, complete the Undergraduate Teacher Certification Enrollment Form.

Maryland Teacher Recertification

If you are seeking re-certification, you should first contact the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) to have your transcript evaluated. Next, contact Laila Richman, , in Towson University’s College of Education about taking the classes MSDE has designated for teachers seeking re-certification in Maryland. Towson University cannot make this determination.
