Something people might not know about TU.
We always say that TU is a large school that feels small. As a prospective student, I didn’t fully understand what that meant, so I chalked it up to a recruitment tagline. I did not realize until I arrived here that there is SO MUCH truth to that statement! TU is a large school, with large-scale resources and access. Simultaneously, TU is a welcoming community that feels a lot smaller. You see the same people around campus frequently, maybe even share classes or a residence hall with them. Students, faculty, and staff create departments that feel like close-knit communities. TU’s size combined with its caring environment can be a wonderful home to so many types of students. I think it speaks volumes that so many TU alums return to campus as visitors, volunteers, grad students, or even as faculty/staff! So many of us truly love this community, and it shows in our willingness to support each other.

My advice to anyone who's applying.
Finding a college is not just about ensuring quality academics and opportunities—it’s also vital to find a place where you feel comfortable. Your well-being is a prerequisite to your success in school—it’s hard to get good grades and build your resume if you’re not happy in your environment. You’re likely to find a lot of schools with impressive academic credentials and it can be difficult to compare them! My advice—don’t forget about your comfort. It’s an important piece of the puzzle that’s easy to overlook! This can help you narrow down your list of impressive schools to a shorter list of schools that will make you successful AND happy. You’ll spend a lot of time on the campus you choose, so don’t be afraid to ask the questions you need so that you can be confident you’ve found a new home that checks all your important boxes. Keep your options open, and keep an open mind—a school you weren’t sure about can surprise you!

Why I work in admissions.
Many students are excited to start their college search and head to their chosen school in the fall, but I was very scared. I know firsthand how difficult and stressful the college search and application process can be! I was terrified to go to college, but when I arrived at TU, my fears disappeared. Within a few hours, I felt at home. As a student, I became involved in the Honors College and Academic Advising in roles where I worked directly with transitioning students. I love to be a resource for any kind of student who is college searching—whether they are enthusiastic or apprehensive, I want to be a support system to them, helping them navigate the process and make an informed decision.

What I love most about my job.
I am really excited to have the opportunity to talk to students about TU. I had a really great experience here as a student, and during my five years of undergrad, I learned a lot about TU, its surrounding area, and its opportunities. I’m super thrilled to get to use my experiences and knowledge base to support students. I know that I can provide an authentic perspective for prospective students, and I’m excited to get to showcase what TU has to offer.

The coolest thing I’ve heard someone say about Towson.
I’m consistently impressed with the new things TU creates on its campus. My first “super cool” TU fact was that there was a program where I could learn American Sign Language—that stood out to me as a rare program I didn’t see at other schools on my list. When I arrived at TU, the gym was under construction—building an impressive expansion that would open my sophomore year. I already thought the gym was pretty cool (I mean, how many gyms have a rock wall?), but the expansion opening was extra exciting. The Science Complex was built when I was a student, and arriving back here as a staff member, I heard about the upcoming Health Professions building. It’s exciting to see just how innovative TU is becoming. To have a school that feels this comfortable but also has so many impressive resources right on campus—it’s incredible.

What I like most about TU's location.
The Towson area has EVERYTHING! As a student, I frequently rode the campus shuttle bus and got to know the area really well. All of my favorite shopping and restaurants are easily accessible. I come from a really rural area of Pennsylvania, so Towson is definitely a different environment. I love that it has so much to offer without being overwhelming. I can get to what I need, it’s easy to explore, and the environment feels comfortable. I really missed the area when I lived/worked elsewhere!
