As of Spring 2012, TUCD is Chapter 127 of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts, in the Secondary Program, which covers middle school- and high school- aged students. At TUCD, Honor Society membership is available to students in either the Junior Youth Ensemble or the Youth Ensemble and will afford participants the ability to graduate high school with official honors bestowed by the National Dance Education Organization. Towson University offers a High School Parallel Enrollment Program for high school students who wish to take courses and earn college credit. If you are interested in this program you must enroll both as a non-degree student with the university, and as a student with the TUCD Pre-Collegiate Youth Ensemble program. Applicants must seek approval from the TU Dance Department faculty and TUCD education director before applying to the university.
A TUCD Children’s Dance Teacher Assistant is defined as a dancer who has the potential within his or her artistry to grow as a mentor when given the opportunity to train under the guidance and skill of master teachers. A Teacher Assistant will gain insight and knowledge into teaching methodology, lesson planning, classroom management, and discipline.
