As director of research at the Regional Economic Studies Institute (RESI) of Towson University, Dr. Knight is responsible for administrative management and project oversight of nine-person team of economists and researchers. Additionally, she contributes to a variety of projects that are focused on regional competitive advantage, industry analysis, and firm collaboration. Through this position, Dr. Knight effectively oversees research activity to deliver deadline-driven results for clients. Previously, Dr. Knight served as research manager.
Dr. Knight’s expertise includes methodology creation and implementation, competitiveness assessment, and regional economic development capacity.
Dr. Knight also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Loyola University and Towson University. Her teaching focuses on inequality in a globalized world.
Prior to working at RESI, Dr. Knight was affiliated with Cardiff University in three distinct roles: Research Associate in the Department of Planning & Geography; Ph.D. researcher in the Department of Social Sciences; and Managing Editor of the journals European Planning Studies and Regional Studies, Regional Science. During her time as a Research Associate, Dr. Knight worked as the project manager and primary researcher on five, European Union funded projects focusing on regional economic development, specifically innovation and collaboration. Dr. Knight also completed consultancy work through this position for the National Endowment for Science, Technology, and the Arts (NESTA) as well as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Simultaneously, Dr. Knight completed a Ph.D. on the economic and social impact of economic migrants on the British labor market.
Dr. Knight holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Cardiff University; a M.S. in comparative political economy from Cardiff University; and a B.S. in crime, law, and justice from Pennsylvania State University, University Park. Dr. Knight has published research on a range of topics including economic resilience, ethnic entrepreneurship, and cultural integration.
