How did you find this internship?

I found this internship through a faculty referral.

What advice on the internship application process would you give to another TU student interested in this internship?

Highlight your strengths in your cover letter while also explaining your experience and interest in the internship.

What did you do as an intern at this organization?

I added the acquisitions that BMI museum has (artifacts) into their collections online system. I learned about nomenclature and the collections process. Also, I was able to take inventory of exhibits and go to meetings about how to create, refine, and convey messaging for exhibition themes.

What did you find most rewarding in your internship?

I found the meetings about exhibition work and deliberation about how to show an idea with objects really rewarding to my future endeavors as a curator. I also enjoyed seeing all the other departments in a museum that are just as important, but not as known in a museum.

What were the challenges you faced in your internship?

It was a challenge understanding museum management before learning about it in class.

If another student at TU was interested in your internship next year, what skills would you recommend they develop in the coming semesters to prepare?

I recommend understanding nomenclature, being proficient in Excel, understanding the purpose of non-profits, and learning the mission statement of the museum.
