How did you find this internship?
I found this internship through LinkedIn.
What did you do as an intern at this organization?
Conrad Siegel is an employee benefits company, so I would do internal work for different departments to present to clients, as well as external marketing assets. I documented design and layout, and edited some videos. I worked closely with the marketing department and the full time graphic designer to work on projects.
What did you find most rewarding in your internship?
I developed a lot of pieces that I can use in my portfolio for future jobs. Also, getting the experience of working a full-time job in my field really helped me.
What were the challenges you faced in your internship?
Getting used to company culture is a bit weird. Also, being one of two designers in a mid-sized company full of actuaries, I felt like a bit of a black sheep sometimes.
If another student at TU was interested in your internship next year, what skills would you recommend they develop in the coming semesters to prepare?
For a graphic design intern, definitely learn as many Adobe programs as you can. InDesign is one that I use everyday. Illustrator, Photoshop, and Premier were all programs that I used as well. Also, look at designs around you: billboards, flyers, packaging, etc. This really helps you develop your tastes as a designer!
