How did you find this internship?

This position was a placement as part of the education program.

What did you do as an intern at this organization?

I assisted the classroom teacher in her daily teaching duties, researched and wrote lesson plans, and took over the classroom for extended periods of time and taught the students. I also attended field trips and other activities. Additionally, I attended seminars and other events hosted by the county.

What did you find most rewarding in your internship?

I loved being able to work with the students. Since I am being certified as an elementary school teacher, it was an amazing experience. I was able to take over the classroom as well as gain valuable insight and information from a tenured teacher.

What were the challenges you faced in your internship?

It was difficult to devote that much time and energy to an internship when it was unpaid. A lot of times I left my house at 7 a.m., working at my internship for 8 hours, and then went straight to my actual job and did not return home until 11 pm. It was extremely demanding but rewarding in the end.

If another student at TU was interested in your internship next year, what skills would you recommend they develop in the coming semesters to prepare?

I recommend completing Level I and Level II in the Elementary Education program. Reach out to the school system you wish to intern in, and get involved with the community!
