Ken Moreland is the CFO, Treasurer and Vice President of T. Rowe Price.
How did you come to be CFO, Treasurer and vice President of T. Rowe Price?
Prior to joining T. Rowe Price in 2004, I was the Chief Financial Officer and a Director with RTKL Associates, Inc., a global design services firm. Previously, I spent 18 years working for the international accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand, and was a Partner with the firm. I also was awarded a prestigious two-year fellowship with the Securities and Exchange Commission in 1988.
What is the most important skill you use on a daily basis for your position and why?
Hands down the most important skill to master is communication in all forms. You can know your stuff and be an expert, but at the end of the day if you can’t get your expertise communicated effectively, all your other skills are not valued.
What do you think is the most important thing for aspiring business leaders to remember
as they begin their careers?
Learning is the foundation to ongoing development and advancement in any career. The day you stop learning is the day you stop growing in terms of your career. Also, learn how to motivate yourself and others to do exceedingly more than what’s expected.
What organizations outside of T. Rowe Price are you involved with?
I’m a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants. I serve on the Board of Trustees of Messiah College, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Y of Central Maryland and the Baltimore Development Corporation. I also serve on the Board of Visitors of Towson University. You should always recognize and reward the people and institutions that were part of your success.
