Daniel received his Ph.D. degree in American Studies from the University of Iowa in 2016. He also holds a M.A. degree in Health and Sport Studies (also from the University of Iowa) and a B.A. in Sociology from National Taiwan University, Taiwan.

His research interests include critical sport studies, Asian American sporting experiences, transnationalism, and sport in East Asia. His current research focuses on the cultural meanings of transnational Taiwanese athletes, aiming to articulate the intersection of transnationalism, American cultural hegemony, and Taiwanese nationalism in the context of contemporary Taiwan.
