Physical Education Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification

Physical education teachers play an important role in improving student health and attitudes about physical activity and exercise.

This program is targeted to students who have completed a bachelor’s degree and are interested in obtaining certification as a physical education teacher, at the prekindergarten level through grade 12, in the state of Maryland.  The program includes 56 units of coursework prior to the student teaching experience.

Based on the sequencing of courses, it will take five to six terms as a full-time student to complete the program. The majority of course work can only be completed during the typical school day rather than in night classes. Learn more about the Program of Study (PDF).

Our faculty bring years of teaching experience to the classroom. Your professors will provide direct supervision and guidance.

How to Apply

Students must be admitted to Towson University to pursue the physical education post-baccalaureate teacher certification program.

  1. Your first step is to make an appointment to talk to program coordinator, Dr. Heather Crowe, in the Department of Kinesiology.
  2. You then need to complete the Undergraduate Teacher Certification Enrollment Form and submit it to Admissions. Dr. Uhrich will notify University Admissions that you have already met and do not require her signature. Once the form is processed, they will send you registration instructions.
