Prior to joining Towson University, Dr. Ebony Okafor attended Florida State University where she graduated with a doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. While a student at Florida State, she served as a graduate assistant working as lead instructor in a number of undergraduate courses. Also, Dr. Okafor worked as a therapist serving families in the local community. She was a student member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.

Dr. Okafor's research interests include understanding youth outcomes of academics, mental health, and the quality of their relationships. She is particularly interested in examining these outcomes for minority and military youth. In addition, she explores familial processes, individual processes, and community level influences.
