Biography

Francisco Martínez-Ibarra joined the Department of Foreign Languages at Towson University in 2012 as an Assistant Professor of Spanish. He received his B.A. in English Studies from the University of Alicante, Spain. While studying for his B.A., he completed a semester at the Manchester Metropolitan University in Manchester, United Kingdom. In 2006 he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to teach Spanish as a Foreign Language Teaching Assistant at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana. He earned his Ph.D. in Spanish Linguistics from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2011.

 

Dr. Martinez-Ibarra currently teaches Spanish language courses at all levels as well as upper-level courses on Spanish linguistics. His research interests are sociolinguistics, language contact, and research methodology. Since joining Towson University, he has coordinated the Department’s compliance with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) assessment to maintain standards for certification credentials. Also, he serves as the departmental liaison to the College of Education, the Department of Secondary Education, and the Teacher Education Executive Board.
