Biography

George J. McCool received his Bachelor of Arts in French from the University of Scranton in 1974, his Licence ès lettres from the Université de Reims (France) in 1975, his Master of Arts in French Linguistics from Cornell University in 1979 and his Ph.D. in French Linguistics from Cornell in 1981. 

From 1981 to 1990, he taught French at Marywood College in Scranton, PA.  He came to Towson University in August 1990 as Assistant Professor of French and currently holds the rank of Associate Professor of French. Among his teaching and research interests are French linguistics (grammar and phonetics), the history of the French language, Old French literature and translation methods.  During spring semester 1998, he served as Maître de conférences at the Université François Rabelais in Tours, France, where he taught courses in linguistics and translation. 

Dr. McCool has presented scholarly papers at numerous professional conferences, and has published articles on the semantic structure of Old French, French language teaching methodology and a book-length translation of a 19th century French travel journal.
