Eligibility & Costs


Participants will undertake a rigorous program of travel and learning over the course of about five weeks.

An individual is eligible to participate in the program if the individual is:

  • a citizen or permanent resident of the United States (per U.S. Department of Education requirements)
  • currently employed full-time in a U.S. public school system and have a teaching contract for 2020-2021
  • a secondary teacher in area studies such as social studies, history, geography, political science, and economics, or related fields


Travel expenses including international airfare, in-country transportation, lodging, and most meals are covered by the grant. There will be a cost share of $600 per participant to the program. Participants will also be responsible for fees incurred to obtain passport and visa, travel insurance, inoculations, and some meals.
