The Department of Mass Communication & Communication Studies is now two departments, effective July 1, 2018.
The Department of Mass Communication addresses the practical application, structure, processes, aesthetics, responsibilities and effects of the mass media. The department shows how students can begin to think critically about the ways in which the mass media influences society and helps them become informed, critical consumers of the media.
The Department of Communication Studies gives students a foundation in communication theories and their interrelated contexts, the application of theories to contemporary issues and the scholarly methods of studying communication. The department offers students a greater understanding of the role that communication plays in shaping culture and identity and sharpens their critical thinking abilities.
