Expand Your Options

Dancers with teaching experience have a competitive edge in the dance sector. That’s one reason the teacher certification option is a great choice. The program will certify you to teach dance in Maryland public schools and currently 38 reciprocal states. It is also excellent preparation if your dream is to teach in a studio setting or for a dance company's educational programs.

The department also offers a post-baccalaureate program leading to Maryland PreK-12 Dance Teacher Certification for students who have already completed a bachelor’s degree in dance.

Admission and Degree Requirements

To be admitted to the dance B.F.A. with the PreK-12 concentration program, you first must be accepted to the dance performance and choreography screened major. The program typically takes four-and-a-half years, concluding with a 15-week internship, student teaching in a public school.
