Double Bassist Edward Leaf completed his studies at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins where he held the position of Principal Bass of the Peabody Symphony Orchestra. He has also attended the Catholic University of America where he was a student of Ali Yazdanfar. Other teachers include Paul Johnson, Hal Robinson, Paul Ellison, and Paul DeNola. He has been a fellow at the National Orchestral Institute, Domaine Forget Academy, and has held the position of Principal Bass with the Castleton Festival, the YOA Orchestra of the Americas, and the Weimar Bach Festival in Germany under Maestro Helmuth Rilling. Mr. Leaf maintains a busy performing schedule and plays with many area ensembles such as the Virginia Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, National Philharmonic, York Symphony, Alexandria Symphony, Apollo Orchestra, and the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra where he currently holds the position of Assistant Principal Bass. Mr. Leaf is equally in demand as a teacher and clinician and has taught and given masterclasses throughout the Americas. He has previously taught at Susquehanna and Shepherd Universities and maintains a private studio in the Bethesda area. In his free time, Mr. Leaf enjoys running, cycling, and following current events.
