Kognito is a free online training simulation course to learn effective techniques to help and refer distressed students.

Why Is It Important to Use Kognito?

As a friend, family member, or TU faculty you may be the first one to notice signs of distress of a student. At TU, it is our shared responsibility to look out for one another and we are here to support you help distressed students. The TU Counseling Center offers a free online resource, Kognito, to help you notice when students show signs of distress, learn how to talk about these signs, practice sharing your concerns and learn how to motivate them to seek help.

What are the Benefits of Doing This Training? 

Research shows that people who complete the training experience an increase in confidence, an ability to recognize signs of emotional distress in others, approach the subject, motivate others to seek help and discuss a referral to appropriate services.

Helping Peers

30 min training – Users learn about the signs of psychological distress, learn effective techniques in approaching a peer who has shown signs of distress and through a simulation learn how to check-in with a friend, educate them about available support services and encourage them to get a consultation.

Student Login Info: 

  1. Visit Kognito 
  2. New users will need to create an account. Returning users can enter their login credentials.
    1. New users will have to agree to the "Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy" to complete registration
  3. After registration is completed, users will need to login with their credentials and answer the demographic questions.  
  4. Select ‘Launch’ to begin your Kognito simulation

Note: To complete your training, please finish all required simulation content and using the orange next button, complete the post-survey. This is required by your institution. Once completed, you will see a green button on your home screen that says ‘Completed.’

45 min training – Users learn the signs of psychological distress, practice talking with three unique virtual students and learn techniques for referring them to counseling services.

Faculty/Staff Login Info:
