Programs & Policies

The Environmental Health & Safety programs outlined below are structured to comply with local, state and federal law and provide the campus community with a safe environment to live, work and learn. Biological & Radiation Safety

Towson's campus is home to a Health Center and a variety of science research programs. Our biological and radiation safety programs help to minimize risks associated with bloodborne pathogens, biological spills, animals in university buildings, special medical waste and occupational health.

CPR/AED

CPR and automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) are crucial life support tools in emergency situations. We offer CPR training to the campus community. You can also access maps and information on our more than 30 campus AED locations, which anyone on campus can use in an emergency situation with no advance training necessary.

Chemical Safety

From electronics and battery recycling programs to chemical spill and hazardous waste management procedures, we provide information on chemical and compound-related safety.

Environmental & Fire Safety

Our environmental and fire safety programs concern all hazards related to the workplace, including lead paint, drinking water, fire safety and spill prevention.

Employee Safety Program

Employee safety programs are designed to minimize injuries and hazardous material exposure among campus employees.

Occupational Safety

Our occupational safety programs cover a myrad of issues that affect workplace safety including equipment safety, ergonomics, fall protection, hearing conservation, respiratory protection and much more.

Drugs & Alcohol

Employees whose job position requires a commercial driver's license (CDL) must adhere to specific CDL drug and alcohol testing (PDF). Our Environmental Health & Safety and Human Resources offices have designated employer representatives to assist in CDL drug and alcohol program compliance. Our employees must also comply with federal regulations and testing procedures on controlled substances and alcohol use, transportation drug and alcohol testing programs, and medical marijuana use. Employees using a CDL for Towson University must submit a verification form acknowledging their completion of CDL drug and alcohol training.
