BGE is installing underground cables to improve power service in Towson.
The Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. (BGE) work along Cross Campus Drive to feed electrical cables underground, where they are less susceptible to weather and traffic accidents has been completed. This project includes a BGE feeder upgrade that has also been finished. Removal of the old equipment in the East Sheppard Pratt substation is ongoing and in its final stage.
This work is part of a countywide BGE project to improve the reliability of power service on campus and nearby hospitals. The project began in January 2017 and the demolition of the Sheppard Pratt electrical substation that is located on Cross Campus Drive directly across from Tower A & B also started in late fall 2017. We expect this project to be completed by early spring 2018.
The final site clean up stage will not impact traffic or activities on Cross Campus.
