Plant-insect interactions especially in agricultural systems including low-resource farming in less developed countries.
My current activities are focused predominately on improving climate literacy among pre-service and in-service teachers and incorporating these topics into introductory science courses. Climate change is a complex topic but one which needs to be understood in order to develop appropriate policies. Other recent activities have included improving sustainability on campus and linking student initiatives to facilities. I also began Towson’s TOPS program [Towson Opportunities in STEM] which enabled at-risk students from underserved Baltimore metropolitan area schools to succeed and graduate with a STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics] degree and go on to graduate degrees or professional careers.
