Aiming for perfection
The bandwagon is getting full as the Towson Tigers volleyball team looks to finish the season with an unbeaten in conference record

It was that date two months ago that the Towson Women’s Volleyball team last suffered a defeat. Since then, the Tigers haven’t been stopped.
This past weekend, the Tigers defeated both Charleston (3-1) and UNC Wilmington (3-1) on the road, and have raised their record to 24-2, with an undefeated Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) conference record of 14-0.
The team has won 18 straight matches, and hasn’t lost more than one set to a conference foe this season. And with wins this past weekend, they have locked up the 2019 CAA Regular Season Championship.
But for the Tigers, while the season has been a rollercoaster ride, they are still taking it just one game at a time.
“It’s unique, it’s humbling and we don’t take it for granted,” says head coach Don Metil. “We come in every week and treat every opponent the same, and work hard. This has been one of the best years holistically that we’ve had, both in morale and success.”
As regular season champions, the Tigers earned the right to host the 2020 CAA Tournament at SECU Arena, while locking up the No. 1 seed for this year’s league Tournament at Hofstra on Nov. 22-24.
The Tigers return to SECU Arena this weekend for the final two games in the regular season. The Tigers host Elon on Friday, Nov. 15, with the game starting at 7 p.m. The regular season finale takes place on Sunday, Nov. 17, with a start time of 1 p.m.
If the Tigers win both of their home games this weekend, it will be the first time in CAA history that a team will go 16-0 in regular season play. It will also match a goal that the team set for themselves before the season started.
“We’re hoping to remain undefeated, because that was a goal we set for ourselves,” says senior setter Marrisa Wonders. “To have a chance to finish the season undefeated is just crazy. If you haven’t been to a game yet, you’ve definitely missed out on a lot this season.
“Senior Day is coming up, and it’s the last game for a few of us. Come out and support us — we’ll take all the support we can get.”
The CAA Tournament begins on Friday Nov. 22, and with the Tigers being the No. 1 seed, they will receive a first-round bye. The Tigers first game will take place on Saturday, Nov. 23, with the championship game taking place on Nov. 24.
If the Tigers win the CAA Tournament, it will be their first CAA title and first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2004.
