Towson University is among the best schools in the United States.

That's the message Washington Monthly is sending with its just-released 2019 College Rankings. The magazine named TU the No. 58 school among national universities. Towson University was also recognized as one of top 80 universities and colleges for student voting in the country.

"Towson University continues to be recognized as one of the best universities in the U.S.,” said President Kim Schatzel. “TU creates real-world opportunities for our graduates through access to world-class faculty and research and through innovative partnerships in Greater Baltimore and Maryland that connect the university’s expertise with the community’s need.”

Washington Monthly's College Rankings for national universities has three major criteria: social mobility, research and service. Each criteria has tiered factors, including graduation rate, graduate performance rank, faculty rankings and involvement in the community.

"Our list of top national universities is a mix of familiar elite schools and public universities that should receive more credit than they often do," Washington Monthly said.

The University of Maryland-College Park was ranked No. 45. Johns Hopkins (56), University of Maryland-Baltimore County (193), Morgan State University (312) and University of Maryland Eastern Shore (354) were also on the list.
