Honoring our grads

Towson University’s May Commencement—like so many things this year—looks different than it usually does.

It doesn’t mean, however, that the significance of this milestone is in any way diminished.

This spring we are sending 3,440 new alumni into the world. Almost 3,000 will be taking their first steps into areas new to them, while 453 alums will have advanced degrees in their chosen fields.

We are proud of each and every one.

Our graduates play essential roles in their communities and their industries. They transform classrooms and health care settings, lead businesses and nonprofits and use their hard work and creativity to make lasting change.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the ends of our graduates’ college careers, but it has given them a unique opportunity to shape the future.

The 367 College of Education graduates have experienced in-classroom and distance teaching and continue to find ways to improve both. The 426 College of Business & Economics alums have seen how supply chains, office structures and bottom lines react under extreme stress, which will inform their future decision-making. The 529 College of Fine Arts and Communication graduates have seen the power of art and the versatility of communication media in uncertain times and can wield both. 

The 669 College of Health Professions and 566 Fisher College of Science and Mathematics alumni certainly know that their skills will be needed in the post-pandemic world.

The College of Liberal Arts can celebrate the most graduates this spring: with 780 undergraduate and 104 graduate degrees to be conferred.

All of our alumni have a role to play in what comes next, and we couldn’t be more #TUproud of our Tigers.
