There's a new way for current and prospective Tigers to interact with Towson University: TikTok.

Since early November, TU (@towson_u) has highlighted student life, shown off beautiful parts of campus and participated in TikTok trends.

TikTok is one of the fastest-growing social media platforms ever and is consistently popular with young adults. The platform reached 1 billion users faster than Facebook, according to HootSuite, and about half of 18-to-29-year-olds say they have used the app, according to the Pew Research Center

"We know TikTok is the platform where many of our current and prospective students are," says Timm Baldwin, TU's associate vice president of marketing and brand strategy. "Creating content for TikTok is about building stronger community among Tigers in a place they like to engage."

Baldwin, a platform fan and user, appeared in TU's first post, seeking students interested in working on the Division of University Marketing & Communications’ social media team, creating TikToks and other content.

"Seeing the staff at TU so willing to participate in creating social media content was really encouraging and part of why I wanted to join the team," says Ariana Maturi, a junior studying mass communication in the journalism track.

Maturi, TU's student social media content creator, hopes to engage with students and student organizations to highlight campus life.

To engage with Towson University on social media, follow the accounts on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Students interested in creating content with the social media team can email Cody Boteler, TU's assistant director for social media strategy, at besocial@towson.edu.
