With 2022 being the 25th anniversary of the name change from TSU to Towson University (TU), an exclusive, limited-time vintage apparel line celebrating the university’s history is available.

“The collection honors the past and celebrates the TU of today,” says Priya Exantus, trademark and licensing manager. “It is very exclusive and just for the fall term—Sept. 1 through Dec. 31.”

Don’t miss your chance at getting exclusive TSU gear for your collection.

Towson University was unveiled as the new brand on July 1, 1997, of what for 21 years was Towson State University. The institution has carried several names since its inception as the Maryland State Normal School in 1866. Prior to becoming TU, the school had 73,531 graduates. Since 1997, there have been more than 114,000 Tigers who have received their Towson University degree.

To get the throwback look just right, TU staff combed through old copies of “The Towerlight” and “Tower Echoes” newspapers, while the University Archives and Special Collections provided additional inspiration.

“Greek House/College Thread is hosting the collection and producing higher-end items; everything has a very vintage look and feel to it. It’s very nostalgic,” says Exantus.

The Towson State Collection includes baseball T-shirts, crew and hooded sweatshirts, crew and v-neck T-shirts and hats in youth and adult sizes. To honor the past and celebrate where TU is today and into the future—state-of-the-art buildings, new programs of study and a strong focus on student research—a TU T-shirt is free with every purchase.

In 2019, the University publicly shared a rebranding process that put forth TU as its abbreviated identifier, complete with a new mark.

TU continues to evolve as an anchor institution and workforce provider for our state.
