Four dancers from Nassau, Bahamas, visited Towson University this fall to audition for TU’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance and Choreography—a milestone experience made possible through the Shirley Hall Bass Foundation’s commitment to expanding access to performing arts education.

The students of the W2 Dance Club in Nassau traveled to Maryland for a full day of auditions, campus tours and community connections within TU’s Department of Dance. The visit was coordinated by faculty member Lindsey Bauer, who supports the Foundation’s National Performing Arts consultancy. Before their trip, the dancers trained with former ballerina Shara Goldsmith to prepare for the collegiate audition process.

During their time on campus, the students toured studios and facilities, met with international student ambassadors and learned about opportunities to double major within TU’s rigorous BFA curriculum. They also connected with current dance majors who offered insight into life at TU.

A highlight of the visit was a conversation with dance professor Vincent E. Thomas, whose professional journey inspired the aspiring performers.

For the dancers and their families, experiencing the university firsthand was transformative. Their visit reflects TU’s broader commitment to cultivating global pathways in the arts and supporting students pursuing professional dance careers.

The Shirley Hall Bass Foundation continues to advance performing arts education in the Bahamas while creating opportunities for cultural exchange with universities like TU.
