Helping build community for TU’s Greek students
Now in its sixth year, Fraternity and Sorority Life Day brings Greek community together with TU faculty, staff
Before becoming a lecturer in Towson University’s Department of Management, Joe Zuccaro was a college student looking to get into Greek Life.
“It was the time that Animal House was in theaters, and the parties were great—although we weren’t quite as crazy,” Zuccaro says, laughing. “There was a great support network to do well in class and a strong tie to the chapter alumni. I still have brothers I communicate with regularly.”
Now Zuccaro gives back by supporting TU’s Greek community. He is a faculty adviser for two chapters and is helping re-establish another organization on campus.
“I get invited to chapter meetings to share my perspective on how they can focus on excelling academically,” Zuccaro says. “And I remind them that brotherhood isn’t just a four-year adventure—it’s a lifetime of bonds that can be full of benefits.”
Each fall, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) hosts Fraternity and Sorority Life Day to celebrate those connections. Now in its sixth year, FSL Day recognizes the unity and pride of TU’s Greek letter organizations and offers a space for students, faculty and staff to come together. This year’s celebration is Aug. 26.
“Having one day of recognition allows the entire community to come together and reinforces the message that Greek Life is not just for college—it’s for life,” says Roodinz Vital, director of fraternity and sorority life.
“Connecting student leaders with faculty and staff who share their affiliation and continue to live out the values of fraternity and sorority life makes that message real and meaningful.”
Several FSL Day events will be happening throughout the University Union:
Tues., Aug. 26 | University Union & Tiger Plaza
- Lunch in Letters | Noon, University Union Room 322
Greek-affiliated students, faculty and staff are invited to enjoy lunch and connect over refreshments, sponsored by Fogo de Chão. A raffle drawing will then be held, sponsored by Sheraton, with a prize of a free night’s stay. - FSL Community Photo | 12:30 p.m., Burdick Hall steps
Participants will step outside for the annual community photo to celebrate Greek unity. - Meet the Greeks | 6–8 p.m., Tiger Plaza
This tabling event is open to all TU students interested in joining Greek Life. It’s a chance to meet representatives from TU’s Greek councils and learn more about active chapters.
For Vital and his team, FSL Day is more than a celebration—it’s a way to strengthen bonds and build bridges across generations of Greeks on campus.
For Zuccaro, that involvement has enriched his experience at TU. In fact, he will be present at FSL Day, ready to meet this year’s crop of Greek Life students.
“It’s important to celebrate the Greek community here at TU,” he says. “Different houses may have different traditions and cultures, but they’re all full of young, energetic, achievement-oriented people. That’s worth celebrating.”
