Our strength as a university has always been rooted in our people—our vibrant community of students, faculty and staff who enrich our campus through their unique ideas, perspectives and experiences. We were reminded of this during our recent Inclusive Excellence Summit, a collaborative interdisciplinary event that brought together nearly 300 campus partners.

At TU, we strive to ensure that every member of our university community not only feels respected but that they are valued and celebrated. Here are just a few of the ways we are working to Raise the Bar for Belonging:

  • Celebrated the 29th year of the President’s Inclusive Leadership Institute, a personal and professional development program for staff
  • Launched the Ben and Myrna Cardin Center for Civic Engagement and Civil Discourse, creating new avenues for strengthening democratic participation through student engagement, faculty collaboration and community involvement
  • Partnered with the Constructive Dialogue Institute (CDI) and the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AACU) as one of 10 universities selected to develop innovative models for strengthening constructive dialogue and open inquiry on campus, which will soon include two online learning platforms open to all members of the TU community
  • Developed the “Belonging Begins Here/Hear” speaker series to promote the role of belonging in academic success and personal development
  • Launched First Gen Alliance, a student organization that promotes growth, leadership development and advocacy for TU’s first-generation population

This work is more important than ever, and it takes us all. Thank you for all you do to ensure Towson University remains a leader in inclusive excellence.
