After an exciting start to the season, the Towson University football team is returning to campus for the first home game of the year. 

The Tigers will take on No. 24 Youngstown State Sat., Sept. 20, at Unitas Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 6 p.m. and parking lots opening at 2 p.m.

The team has started the season fast, grabbing two exciting wins over Norfolk State and Morgan State before falling to Maryland this past weekend.

After three straight road games, head coach Pete Shinnick is ready to return to the TU faithful.

“We are really excited to be back at Johnny Unitas Stadium for this game,” Shinnick says. “It’s going to be a great day for football, so come out and support the Tigers.”  

The Tigers are led by a high-flying and fast defense, who rank in the top half in total and scoring defense in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA). 

The defense includes Xavier Terry, who was named to the 2025 CAA Preseason All-Conference Team. The linebacker-turned-safety is entering his fifth season at Towson University and making it his mission to get the Tigers back the playoffs.

“This place has become my home,” Terry says about TU. “Our goal is to be lights out this year. We’re going to have a lot of passion, because we missed the playoffs last year. Our goal is to be locked in and take the season one game at a time.”

Gameday experience

To celebrate the home opener, TU is ready to provide a fun atmosphere for fans to cheer on the Tigers:

  • Student, faculty and staff can access one free ticket to the game through the new app or by showing their OneCard at the Box Office. Students can also get reduced-rate companion tickets with their OneCard.
  • The first 1,000 students will get a free Gold Rush replica football jersey courtesy of Ledo Pizza.
  • President Mark Ginsberg will be hosting a special endzone party for Towson University faculty and staff (attendance requires RSVP).
