Welcome to TU!
Attend events, make friends, get to know TU
Are you ready for Welcome to TU? An exciting week awaits you on campus and gives you the opportunity to make friends, meet student organizations, try out local food trucks and have fun.
"Welcome to TU helped me adjust to campus and made college feel a lot less overwhelming," says First Year Experience (FYE) Leader Ahmad Hunt, "It gave me the chance to meet new people, especially others in my major, and introduced me to the resources TU has to offer, which ended up being really helpful throughout my time here."
Freshman and transfer students, here’s all you need to know to get involved in the TU community the first week back.
TU Takeover
There’s no better time to step out of your comfort zone and meet new people than the first week on campus, and TU Takeover is a great opportunity to do so.
Whether you enjoy active social events like sports or carnival activities, or more relaxed activities like movie nights or crafting, one of the more than 200 events taking place on campus will be the perfect fit for you.
“This is the best time to get out there and meet new people and try new things. Everybody is new so don’t be afraid,” says Katie Murray, director of New Student and Family Programs.
Cap off the night with late-night dining in West Village Commons or the Glen Dining Hall both open until 11 p.m.
First Year Need to Knows
The TU Events App will be your best friend, especially during your first week on campus. To stay up to date on the latest Welcome to TU event information, download the TU Events app and log-in to Involved at TU using your TU ID and password.
From Aug. 20-24 there are several required academic and social sessions that first-year students must attend - including New Student Convocation in SECU Arena, the TU class photo at Unitas Stadium and FYE advising on Friday, Aug. 22.
Before the fun can fully begin, first-year students must work with their FYE adviser to ensure all required sessions are completed.

Sustaining community
“Welcome week is one of my favorite weeks working in higher education because this is the start of getting excited about college. It’s exciting to be rolling out the TU welcome wagon to make everyone feel welcome,” says ArenRenae Hamer, assistant director of Campus Programming.
Entering college can be both exciting and overwhelming. Welcome to TU is designed to meet the needs of first year students and is thoughtfully designed to help acclimate new students to campus life as smoothly as possible.
"My Welcome to TU experience inspired me to become an FYE leader. I saw the impact it had on incoming students and how valuable the leaders were as a resource. That made me want to step into that role and support new students the same way," Hunt adds.
