Towson University has officially named the Beynon Family Training Complex in recognition of a transformational $1.5 million commitment from John ’73 and Robin ’70 Beynon. The gift supports the continued enhancement of facilities that serve Tiger student-athletes.

The Beynon Family Training Complex will become the new name of the Towson Center Gym after a comprehensive renovation of the facility as part of a future renovation of the Towson Center.  Until the facility is renovated, the Towson Center’s gymnasium will be renamed the Beynon Family Gymnasium. The project will transform the space into a modern, multifunctional training environment featuring approximately 15,000 square feet of indoor turf, practice courts for basketball and volleyball and updated viewing areas for coaches, student-athletes and supporters.

The naming recognizes the Beynon family's longstanding connection to TU and their decades of support for Tiger Athletics. John Beynon, a mathematics graduate and former Towson basketball player, founded Beynon Sports Surfaces in 1974 and built the company into the nation's largest manufacturer and installer of athletic running tracks. Today, Beynon tracks can be found at elite facilities throughout the United States and around the world, including the iconic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.

The Beynons have been dedicated supporters of TU Athletics for many years through the Tiger Athletic Fund, the John T. Beynon Men's Basketball Endowed Scholarship and more than three decades as men's basketball season ticket holders.

The naming is part of TU Athletics' Campaign for Excellence, a fundraising initiative supporting a broader athletics facilities improvement plan on South Campus. Phase One includes renovations and expansions to the field house at Unitas Stadium, including enhancements to team meeting spaces, the academic achievement center, sports medicine areas and student-athlete support facilities.

For the Beynon family, the project represents an opportunity to invest in a university that helped shape their personal and professional journeys.
