We are writing to provide an update following tonight’s shelter-in-place order and to thank our campus community for your cooperation throughout the evening.

Baltimore County Police, assisted by Towson University Police, responded to reports of an off-campus shooting at Cardiff Hall apartments around 7:15 p.m. Subsequently, TU issued a shelter-in-place order to campus. Baltimore County is leading the law enforcement response and investigation and gave the university the all-clear just before 10 p.m. to return our campus to normal operations.

An injured person, who is not a TU student, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. 

We thank our Office of Public Safety and other first responders for their professionalism, expertise and care in responding to this situation near our campus. 

We also thank our entire campus community — especially our students, residence life professionals and all who sheltered in place tonight — for complying with the directions from TU's Office of Public Safety.  

Classes will continue as scheduled on Monday. We ask our TU faculty to provide appropriate flexibility and consideration for students who were affected by the shelter-in-place order.

We recognize that an extended shelter-in-place order can be unsettling, particularly for students living on campus and for families concerned about their well-being, and we are grateful for the patience and cooperation of our entire community throughout the evening.
