The Eta Sigma chapter of Tau Beta Sigma at Towson University has been named the 2026 recipient of the Northeast District Counselor’s Award, the highest honor presented to a chapter in the region.

Selected from 17 finalists, Eta Sigma was recognized for its outstanding performance, leadership and commitment to the organization’s mission. The Counselor’s Award celebrates chapters that demonstrate excellence not through perfection, but through professionalism, adaptability and a strong growth mindset across all aspects of chapter operations.

To qualify, chapters must meet rigorous standards, including timely completion of administrative requirements, active participation in national and district programs and consistent engagement with the broader Tau Beta Sigma community. This year’s applicants were also asked to reflect on the sorority’s 80th anniversary and envision the future of their chapters.

Eta Sigma stood out for its collaborative spirit and dedication to service. The chapter maintains a strong partnership with Towson’s Kappa Kappa Psi chapter, hosting joint events that celebrate musicianship and community. Members are also active beyond campus, supporting music education initiatives across Maryland.

Judges noted the chapter’s enthusiasm, problem-solving mindset and commitment to fostering meaningful connections within the organization. Leadership emphasized a shared passion for music and service that unites members and strengthens their impact.

This recognition highlights Eta Sigma’s role as a leader within the Northeast District and its continued contributions to Towson University’s vibrant campus community.
