PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
A message regarding USM's compensation guidelines
Full-time faculty and staff, additional university personnel to receive 1.5% cost-of-living-adjustment in FY27
Colleagues:
I am pleased to share that the University System of Maryland (USM) compensation guidelines for fiscal year 2027 provide a 1.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for all regular faculty and staff. I also am pleased that TU has elected to extend the COLA increase to additional TU colleagues including Contingent II employees, while also making an adjustment to our adjunct pay rates in FY27 to reflect the COLA increase.
The increase will be applied to all full-time and Contingent II TU faculty and staff at the start of the new fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026. For adjunct and 9-month faculty, the change will take effect at the start of the new contract period after July 1, 2026.
Please note, the Governor’s budget, as approved by the State Assembly, did not include funding for merit increases in FY27.
As I shared in my latest campus message, TU is financially well-positioned for the upcoming fiscal year thanks to our diligent planning and disciplined approach. There are still challenges ahead, but we remain focused on what matters most: our students, our community and our mission to serve the public good.
This has been another momentous academic year for our university community. On behalf of the university's leadership, I extend our appreciation for all you do that makes TU a wonderful and very special place.
Sincerely,
Mark R. Ginsberg, Ph.D.
President
