Presidential Message
President Ginsberg welcomes Tigers back to campus for the 2026 spring semester
A message to campus celebrating the first day of classes
Welcome back, Tigers!
The start of a new year always brings a renewed sense of energy, and that is certainly the case for our TU community as we begin the 2026 spring semester.
In fact, this year is especially meaningful for us as we celebrate our 160th anniversary.
For more than a century and a half, our institution has been a state leader in education—a place where opportunities are created and success is possible for everyone. What began with 11 students as the Maryland State Normal School in 1866 has evolved into one of the area’s largest, top-ranked public universities.
Today, our transformation is marked by the success of our students, the achievements of our faculty and staff, our rise in national rankings and our reputation for excellence. We are a powerhouse in teaching, research, service and innovation. And we’ve produced elite graduates—more than 200,000 alumni worldwide—who are making an impact because of their TU experience.
Yet even as we grow, our purpose remains unchanged. Student success and leadership for the public good remain at the heart of everything we do. It’s this commitment to access, opportunity and service that has sustained our university for 160 years and will fuel us for generations to come.
We are all part of TU’s storied legacy—one that thrives today as we begin a new chapter and continue our great work together.
I wish you all a wonderful spring semester and a momentous 2026.
Go Tigers!
Mark R. Ginsberg, Ph.D.
