Towson University in Northeastern Maryland (TUNE) continues to expand opportunity and strengthen its impact in the region, recently earning recognition from the Harford County Chamber of Commerce and celebrating the first recipients of the TUNE Transfer Scholarship.

At the chamber's annual Harford Awards, TUNE was recognized in the nonprofit category for its longstanding contributions to Harford County and its commitment to increasing access to higher education. The honor reflects more than a decade of partnership with local communities, employers and educational institutions to help students earn a Towson University degree closer to home.

For 12 years, TUNE has served as a bridge between community college and career advancement, helping students pursue bachelor's degrees while remaining connected to the communities where they live and work. Through partnerships with institutions such as Harford Community College and Cecil College, TUNE has expanded educational access, strengthened the regional workforce and created pathways for student success across Northeastern Maryland.

That commitment was further underscored this year through the awarding of the inaugural TUNE Transfer Scholarships. The first recipients, both transfer students from Harford Community College, are Delaney Klaus, a junior majoring in elementary and special education, and Mackenzie Scott, a junior majoring in criminal justice.

The scholarship supports transfer students continuing their educational journey at TUNE and reflects TU's ongoing efforts to reduce barriers to higher education. As one of Maryland's leading destinations for transfer students, Towson University continues to invest in programs and resources that help students thrive from enrollment through graduation.

Together, the Harford Award recognition and the first TUNE Transfer Scholarships highlight the program's growing impact across the region. By bringing opportunity closer to home, TUNE is helping students achieve their academic goals while developing skilled professionals who will contribute to the economic and social vitality of Harford County and the Northeastern region fo the state for years to come.
