MTA Transit Subsidy

All Towson University faculty, staff and students can receive up to a $25 discount on monthly passes for the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus, light rail and subway and for MARC Train.


For MTA, Light Rail and Subway (pre-tax benefit):

  • MTA Express BusLink service has come to the TU Campus!  BusLink 102 (PDF) provides service to the White Marsh area and BusLink 106 (PDF)provides service to Owings Mills.  Service is provided from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays.  The on campus stop is the bus slip on Osler Drive next to Enrollment Services.  Please see the MTA website for more information.
  • Submit the Alternative Transportation Application (PDF) to Parking & Transportation Services.
  • Submit a Payroll Deduction Card to Auxiliary Services Business Office (ASBO), located in the lower level of the University Union.  After approval, the discounted MTA transit pass can be purchased directly at ASBO.  MTA Transit Subsidy applications can be obtained at ASBO.
  • An application must be submitted each academic year to continue in the program.
  • Bus passes will be sold during the September through August calendar year and each monthly pass will be paid for one month in advance through payroll deduction.
  • Student discounts come directly from MVA.

For MARC Train Monthly Pass Subsidy:

  • Submit the Alternative Transportation Application (PDF) to Parking & Transportation Services.
  • To purchase the MARC pass, submit a receipt for the purchase, along with a completed reimbursement form to Parking & Transportation Services.
  • Requests for each month within a fiscal year should be submitted no later than June 1 of that year.
  • The MARC train reimbursement is up to $25 per month.

Faculty/Staff members with the MTA Subsidy are also eligible for:

  • Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH):  Provides free transportation when you are stuck at work during an emergency.  See our Regulations (PDF) for detailed information on GRH.
  • Alternative Transportation Parking Passes:  Provides free parking codes each semester for when a vehicle must be brought on campus.  See Alternative Transportation for more information on free parking codes.

Participation in the program is required through the end of the fiscal year. If it becomes necessary to stop payroll deduction, a request must be submitted to Auxiliary Services Business Office (ASBO) one month in advance. No refund will be issued for deductions that have been processed or for the passes that are not picked up from ASBO.
