Welcome to the Albert S. Cook Library at Towson University. This brief video will share some helpful information when visiting the library in person and virtually. Specifically, it introduces you to some of the most important areas of our website. The library's website is a portal to information for the Towson University community. The library is ready to support student and faculty research. Be sure to check what library spaces and services are available and when by clicking "hours and occupancy" in the top most menu on the far right. Refer to this information regularly, as it may change. But, keep in mind, even when the library is closed, our online front door is always open. Your TU NetID is your all-access pass. Make your online library experience more efficient by signing in before you start your research. The fastest way to start searching for information is via Cook OneSearch, the search box in the center of our home page. OneSearch allows you to simultaneously search the library's catalog and many different databases for books, articles, videos, and more, for personal or academic reference. You can watch other library videos for tips on using Cook OneSearch effectively, but in the meantime. if you are not sure where to get started, browse through our research guides to identify recommended databases and search strategies for your topic. You'll find librarian-created course guides for specific courses, as well as more general subject and topic guides for all of Towson's programs of study. Now, let's get back to the library homepage. You can easily return to the library home page at any time by clicking the Albert S Cook Library logo in the top most menu on the far left. Other icons on the home page provide additional places to get started with your research. You can find known databases, or browse by subject, under the databases button. Databases are searchable, so we recommend these for finding subject-specific journal articles you can also access our traditional TU library catalog if you need to find books or other materials here at Cook Library, and citing sources links you to citation guides for most of the major citation styles including APA, Chicago, and MLA, as well as guides for common citation management programs, like EndNote, Mendeley, and Zotero. An additional row of options provides easy access to some of the library's most frequently used resources. This includes links to -- from left to right -- the library's journal list a listing of all journals to which the library has direct access, interlibrary loan services, our institutional repository for publications by Towson University affiliates called Scholarworks@Towson, and study room reservations. Back at the top of the website, we find the main navigational menu in gold. This allows you to browse for additional information on the library. Under find sources you can access resources you need to research topics for papers, presentations, or other projects. Under using the libraries you can learn more about the library services and spaces. You can also access specialized services based on your university affiliation whether faculty, student, alumni, or guest. Under get help, you can explore materials that help with finding, evaluating, and using information. Under university archives you can explore institutional history and other special collections. You can even make a research request to use archival sources in person or virtually. Finally under about you'll find information on our policies, and a full listing of employees through the staff directory. Don't forget to check for directions and parking details, or even view employment opportunities. And if you have any difficulty navigating this website, please let us know so we can make things right! Just scroll to the bottom of the page and click accessibility to learn how we make our services accessible to users with disabilities. If you experience an accessibility barrier please use the brief report a barrier form to share your experience with us. You're welcome to add your name or keep it anonymous. Finally, when you need research help or have other questions about the library look to the bottom right of the screen for the chat with a librarian widget. Just click the prompt, then click launch chat, to instantly message an available library worker. Although this service isn't staffed 24/7, it is frequently staffed during evening and weekend hours. And if you'd rather communicate with a library worker in some other way just click ask a librarian in the topmost menu toward the right. Here you'll learn how to connect with a library worker via chat, email, virtual appointment, phone call, or text. And with that, thanks for watching this video, and remember, we're here to help!
