Information for Community Partners

Service-learning is a form of experiential education in which students engage in activities that address human and community needs together with structured opportunities intentionally designed to promote student learning and development. Self-reflection and positive reciprocal relationships with community partners are key concepts of service-learning. Service-learning is effective in instilling leadership and civic responsibility in students, helping students comprehend course material, and addressing community needs in a sustainable way. Towson University has several resources to assist community organizations in exploring service-learning partnerships with faculty and students.

Service Fairs

At the start of each term, in September and February, community organizations are invited to attend on-campus service fairs. These events provide community agencies an opportunity to meet students who are interested in community service experiences and internships. Community organizations may also meet faculty and use this opportunity to explore ideas for service-learning partnerships.

Service-Learning Partnerships

Community organizations may contact the Coordinator of Community Outreach Programs at Towson to discuss the possibility of building partnerships with faculty members to create service-learning projects. All ideas for new projects are welcome.
