Why did Towson decide to expand Burdick Hall?

The expansion is essential for accommodating TU’s growing population. It will increase space for recreation and programming opportunities and help create a more healthy and active community at Towson.

When will the project be complete? 

The expansion will open with the start of the spring 2018 semester. Burdick Hall will officially open on Saturday, January 27 at 9:00 a.m.

Will the walkway leading to West Village be opened for walking when the expansion opens? 

Yes, the walkway will be reinstated before the expansion opens. It will run alongside the expanded portion of Burdick Hall and the Turf Fields.

Will the facility close to prepare for the opening? 

Yes, all Campus Recreation facilities will be closed from December 19, 2017 – January 26, 2018. During this time, our space will be closed in order to:

  • Train and onboard our new staff of over 350 student employees.
  • Convert our existing fitness floor space back into a basketball court.
  • Relocate current fitness equipment.
 Will there be a grand opening celebration?

Yes, there will be a grand opening celebration on Wednesday, January 31 at 12:00 p.m. The celebration will include refreshments, giveaways and more.

Will Group Fitness classes still take place at West Village Commons?

No, all Group Fitness classes will take place in one of the five new fitness studios.

Are there any additional fees associated with the new facility?

Students will not be charged a membership fee. Towson University faculty and staff will receive a complimentary membership through June 30, 2018.
