Smart Classrooms

A Smart classroom is a traditional lecture style teaching space with available technological equipment that can be used to enhance or aid in the instruction of a course. Towson University has more than 440 smart classrooms. Below is a variety of resources relating to the equipment found in a smart classroom.

Smart Classroom: Document Camera (ELMO) (PDF)
Learn how to use the document camera to project images of documents, books, transparencies, etc. on the screen.

Smart Classroom: Using the Elmo Document Camera with the Sympodium (PDF)
Learn how to use the document camera in conjunction with the Sympodium to create and save annotations for use at a later date.

Smart Classroom: Sympodium ID350 Overview (PDF)
The Sympodium interactive pen display allows you to write over any presentation in digital ink, highlight concepts and take notes. The Sympodium is connected to a computer and a projector, so you can bring up a software package, create notes and your audience will see the writing projected onto a large screen.

Using the WolfVision Document Camera with the Sympodium (PDF)
The WolfVision Document Camera is used to project images of documents, books, transparencies, etc. on the screen. The document camera takes the place of an overhead projector. Learn how to use the WolfVision in conjunction with the Sympodium.

Crestron TPS 6L (PDF)
The Crestron is a touch screen panel which provides complete control of the electronic and mechanical devices in the classroom through clearly marked buttons and a touch screen display. This self-help document will guide you through how to use the Crestron.

Smart Classroom: Getting Help (PDF)
Prior to or during a class, the technology in the classroom may fail. It is important to know what to do to get the appropriate help. This self-help document will walk you through the process of how to get help when you need it.

Smart Classroom: Virtual Tour (PDF)
While every Smart Classroom differs, there are a few common elements to the classroom look and feel. In this self-help document, you will be given a tour of a typical instructor station setup.

Smart Classroom: Connecting Peripheral Devices (PDF)
You may need to use a peripheral device such as a laptop or iPad when presenting in a SMART classroom. Some classrooms provide the necessary cables; however, most do not. This self-help document will guide you through how to connect devices to the SMART Podium and provide information on the required cables and adaptors for the different devices.
