All students who are veterans of the military are welcome to join the Student Veterans Group. The group sponsors speakers of interest to veterans, collects goods from the campus to ship to deployed troops, sponsors other community service activities and allows veterans to come together in a risk-free environment.
Begun in the fall of 2008, the Towson Veterans Student Group has both virtual and live members—people do what they can. Projects have included spearheading a campus-wide effort to collect items to send to deployed troops (who should know better?), leading a Toys For Tots Drive, and speaking at meetings and forums to let people on campus know “what it was like.”
The group provides an opportunity for veterans to share their experiences readjusting to being on a campus after a life in combat with others in the same situation.
Students in the group enjoy getting together. Some, who can’t attend group functions in person, appreciate receiving e-mails and updates on activities. To join or to attend meetings and events, please call or write to Tracy Miller, TU veterans advocate, tmiller AT_TOWSON.
Towson University's "TU Serving our Troops" group was founded by two students who
were in a similar group in high school. With the idea of wanting to expand this group
to college, the founders created the group and constitution and got the group approved
by the Towson University SGA.
The mission of this group is to provide services to service members both domestic and abroad and their families and children. This group will do many projects. These include making bears for children, delivering meals to the VA hospital, and sending cards and care packages to our troops overseas. This group will work to recruit members who share a same passion for helping our Troops and will conduct bi-weekly meetings and monthly events to provide these products, both tangible and intangible to our troops.
