Web Editor Roles & Responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities

Modern Campus CMS users are assigned specific roles to maintain a controlled workflow and ensure message accuracy. These roles are: unit leaders, content owners and content contributors.

Unit Leaders

Unit Leaders don't have an active role working within Modern Campus CMS. Unit Leaders instead communicate their content goals to their Content Owners who assure that these goals are communicated accurately on the website.

Content Owners

There is one Content Owner per site section. Content Owners make certain that their Unit Leaders’ goals are accurately communicated online and crafted with a high level of quality. Within the CMS, they review and approve all content added by their Content Contributors, and are strongly encouraged to review pending approvals within two business days of submission. This responsibility involves:

  • reviewing content for accuracy
  • checking hyperlinks
  • assuring all content meets TU’s digital accessibility standards

Content Owners additionally confirm site structure and web editor permissions changes.

Content Contributors

Content Contributors are responsible for adding and editing content to their assigned webpages. There are 1-2 Content Contributors per site section.

Temporary Publishing Help

If you or your content contributor are unable to publish a page because you don’t have access to the website (i.e., out of town, on vacation) please fill out a Tech Help ticket. Make sure you CC your content owner on the ticket so they are aware that the page is being published.

Adding New Users

Content Owners can request to add Content Contributors to their site section. To get access to Modern Campus CMS users must first be approved for permissions by contacting Ashley Arnold, , and then attend Modern Campus CMS training.

Training Requirements

Modern Campus CMS Technical Training is required prior to access. Registration for Technical Training is by invitation only. If you have already attended Technical Training and would like a refresher, you can register at any time without invitation.

After you complete this Modern Campus CMS training, you should then attend a Web Content Training to learn how to streamline your content so that it’s easy to read, and walk-through page types, components, linking, photography and more. Any Modern Campus CMS user can register for the Web Content Training at any time.

Removing Users

Content Owners can request to remove Content Contributors from their site section at any time by contacting Ashley Arnold, . Content Owners should request to remove a Content Contributor if they no longer work at TU.

Towson University web editors must regularly login to their sites — at least once a term — to review their content for accuracy and to ensure all information is current and up-to-date. Web editors who have not logged into their site for a full year’s time will be removed from the system. To reinstate website permissions, web editors who have been removed will need to retake the Modern Campus CMS Technical Training.
