Short URLs & QR Codes
Towson University departments and organizations can request official TU short URLs and QR codes from Digital Strategy by using the form below.
A short URL is a shortened www.towson.edu link that is easy to remember, type and share. A QR code can be scanned with a mobile device to open a webpage.
Usage
Short URLs and QR codes are best used on materials where the audience is unable to click on a link, such as print pieces, posters/signage, radio, and TV. Short URLs and QR codes can be used alongside each other on print pieces.
On emails and social media, where the audience can click, create tracking links and embed them in the HTML link instead.
Short URL Criteria
Before submitting your request, please make certain your short URL:
- is not already in use
- relates to the site/page content and is not overly broad or vague
- links to a www.towson.edu webpage or a TU-owned web property
Example of an acceptable short URL: www.towson.edu/policies. This is acceptable because it describes the site content and is the location of all official TU policies.
Example of an unacceptable short URL: www.towson.edu/graduate. This is unacceptable because it is too broad and could relate to graduating, graduate studies, graduates, etc.
QR Code Criteria
Before submitting your request, please make certain your QR code:
- is not used for email, social media or on websites
- links to a www.towson.edu webpage or a TU-owned web property
We are unable to create QR codes for all requests. Decisions to accept QR requests are based on the visibility and reach of the publication where the QR will be used and the expected volume of usage. Public-facing requests are prioritized over internal-facing requests.
