Michael Burchell, Ed.D, is an executive coach and consultant. An expert in organizational culture, team development and change management, Michael is the co-author of three books, Make Work Healthy: Create a Sustainable Organization with High-Performing Employees (2023), No Excuses: How You Can Turn Any Workplace into a Great One (2013), and The Great Workplace: How to Build It, How to Keep It, and Why It Matters (2011). A seasoned executive counselor on human capital strategy, he partners with clients on issues such as employee engagement, diversity and inclusion, employer branding, workplace culture change, and top team effectiveness.

Michael is an executive coach and works with senior leaders across a variety of industries, including healthcare, energy, manufacturing, and professional services. 

Michael brings over 30 years of experience in post-secondary education, manufacturing, and workplace consulting. He has worked with leading, global organizations in enhancing the employee experience through design, data, coaching, team development and facilitation, including as group managing director for Great Place to Work® Middle East, organization expert for McKinsey & Company, and an executive vice president at United Minds.

Michael has spent significant time working with clients in the global energy, chemicals and basic materials sectors who are undergoing large turnarounds or transformations, and he has helped them rigorously implement engagement strategies to improve the effectiveness of their performance initiatives. Michael has led organizational design and development efforts with several clients in the legal and public sectors, and DE&I change efforts across multiple industry sectors. 

Michael earned his doctorate (Ed.D.) in social justice and diversity education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, an M.S. in higher education from Colorado State University, and has undergraduate degrees in English and sociology from the University of Southern California. Is certified in DiSC and Five Behaviors (Wiley Authorized Partner), Prosci Change Management (Prosci), Leadership Effectiveness Training (Gordon Training Intl), and Myers-Briggs (Type Resources). He is a member of the International Coaching Federation and the Society for Human Resource Management.
