Towson University recognized for commitment to serving learners across lifespan
Membership in Age-Friendly Global Network attests to continued impact in fostering age-friendly environments throughout the university
Towson University has been accepted into the Age-Friendly University Global Network (AFUGN), joining an international coalition of higher education institutions committed to promoting inclusion, engagement and opportunity for learners of all ages.
Formally welcomed Feb. 2026, TU is beginning a five-year membership cycle. The AFUGN supports colleges and universities that embrace policies, research, programs and partnerships designed to enhance the lives of older adults and foster intergenerational learning.
Guided by 10 principles, the AUFGN encourages institutions to expand access to educational opportunities for older adults, promotes age-diverse learning environments, supports encore careers and civic engagement and ensures that campuses are welcoming and inclusive across the lifespan.
TU’s membership reflects a longstanding institutional commitment to lifelong learning and well-being. Through initiatives such as the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, the university provides intellectually enriching, noncredit courses and programs designed for adults 50 and older. Additionally, the Institute for Well-Being in the College of Health Professions advances research, programming and community partnerships that support healthy aging and intergenerational engagement.
Students of any age are welcome at TU. By joining the AFUGN, the university strengthens its role as a regional and global leader in age-inclusive higher education. The designation affirms TU’s efforts to create flexible pathways for learning, encourage cross-generational dialogue and contribute to scholarship that addresses the needs and opportunities of an aging society.
Now, Towson University has an enhanced ability to collaborate with peer institutions worldwide to share best practices, assess progress and continue advancing initiatives that ensure individuals of all ages can learn, grow and thrive.
